This is the name portion in the name value pair. You can use any name that you would like or that might be useful to you. Some common names are:

Meta tags are included in the of an HTML document. If you are using meta tags to improve your standing in search engines, then you should focus on your description and keywords.

The description tag
Use the description tag to describe what your page is about. Engines that use it will supply the content of this tag when displaying a list of links. For example, if you do a search on About.com, you will see the description listed on the search results page.

The keywords tag
Keywords help search engines to categorize your site, and to allow people to find your pages more quickly. However, most search engines have limits as to how many meta keywords are viewed. It is a good idea to review your keywords and make sure that they are as concise and specific as possible.

For those of you new to SEO, you may be wondering what are backlinks is, and why they are important. Backlinks have become so important to the scope of Search Engine Optimization, that they have become some of the main building blocks to good SEO.

What are "backlinks"? Backlinks are links that are directed towards your website. Also knows as Inbound links (IBL's). The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node. Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

In understandable language - Backlinks are hyperlinks that point to your website and are found on other peoples sites. Google and other search engines use these links to determine how important your website is. When trying to gage the important of back links in SEO, it is smart to keep in mind which search engine you are competing in. Google counts back links much more than Yahoo, although both take them into account. Google especially gives credit to the websites that receive a good number of back links from a variety of different websites.

The number of backlinks coming into a website indicates the popularity and importance of the site. As someone performs a search query, some search engines, specifically Google, will give higher pagerank to websites that have a high number of quality inbound links because they consider those sites to be more relevant than others.

The Top Three backlink criteria plays critical factor for getting ranked top in SEO:

1) High Value Links: Establish your links with websites which have a high Page Rank value than your website. A website that is linked to by many sites with high PageRank receives a high rank itself.

2) Keyword Relevancy – Make sure the links back to your website are relevant to the page content. Anchor text, Title & Meta Tags, and Content all play a valuable role and should be addressed before creating the link.

3) Avoid NoFollow – Avoid backlinks with Nofollow in the HTML attributes of website. There is no use of NoFollow backlinks as it is not recognised by search engines as quality baclinks to website and also doesn't help in indexing of website in search engine result page.

Link your website with DoFollow backlinking websites for more quality backlinks which are given more importance by search engines.
